Vincent van Gogh was worn down by his activities in Paris, on February 19, 1888, Vincent leaves for Arles, Provence in the south of France: "It appears to me to be almost impossible to work in Paris."
In Arles he was still hoping to establish an artists cooperative. Gauguin describes the paintings in that period as completely Vincent van Gogh.
