Description of Van Gogh's Painting

Vincent van Gogh turned his attention in 1887 to Asnières, a village six kilometres from Paris. And an attractive destination for Parisians day-trippers. Monet, Seurat, Signac and Emile Bernard painted there.

The painting Restaurant at Asnières can been seen as the crowning touch on his recent efforts to master a sunnier palette.

Van Gogh used a loosely woven canvas, and was given a thin coat of pale pinkish ground. An undergrowing with graphite. Van Gogh used his perspective frame to help him with the sketch. Vincent used fine brushes and a loose touch, leaving the pinkish ground clearly visible.

Theo van Gogh was fond of this painting.

The reproduction in European Journal (German TV)

Vincent Van Gogh's work has probably been copied and forged more than that of any other painter of the modern era. The TV-crew came to my house and to make a documentary about this copy and others.
